Overview
Knicks in 5!
Riding the momentum of the Knicks’ 2026 NBA championship win, I created my first sports-related design series featuring posters of the team’s starting lineup.
This project was an opportunity to explore a new visual direction outside of my usual UX/UI work, translating the energy of sports culture into a graphic design system rooted in my personal design style through typography, texture, and composition.
Process
I began by designing each poster in Photoshop, focusing on composition, typography, and visual hierarchy. I sourced dynamic player photography and incorporated stats and positions to ground each design in a sports editorial format.
From there, I experimented with multiple textural techniques:
- Printed each design and scanned them back in to introduce organic grunge and imperfections
- Tested blending modes and layered effects within Photoshop to build depth and atmosphere
- Printed the championship trophy on tracing paper to create a translucent overlay effect across compositions
- Iteratively built up each poster through layering, refinement, and recomposition
The final series emerged through this combination of digital and physical manipulation, blending controlled design decisions with more unpredictable analog textures.
Outcome
The result is a cohesive series of posters that reinterpret the Knicks’ starting lineup through a gritty, layered visual style that reflects both celebration and motion.
The final series balances structured sports information with expressive, mixed-media textures. By combining digital composition with physical printmaking techniques, I created a visual system that captures the excitement of the Knicks' championship win while exploring a new direction in my own design practice.
